Contraceptives and birth control are by no means new to humankind. In fact, birth control history began almost consonantly with the discovery of the relationship between pregnancy and coitus. Early people, however, did not have access to contraceptives that are as diverse as ours. Accordingly, the earliest known form of birth control include coitus interruptus – more commonly known today as the withdrawal method – and the ingestion of herbs that are believed to be good contraceptives. Historical records indicate Egyptian women have been using vaginal suppositories created from different acidic substances. These were lubricated with oil or honey, and were believed to effectively kill sperm. This section is all about contraceptives and all the topics that pertain to birth control.
